Shrink me

We show large Diatom Ice Sculptures up to one meter scale. We can sculpture different species throughout all diatom clades.

The visitors enter the installation through our laboratory, where we inform about diatoms during a science presentation including microscopes.

We then shrink the audience to the microscopic scale, where they can appreciate the beauty of diatoms.

The ice sculpture is stages by lasers, smoke machines and a sound installation by artist Francisca Rocha Gonçalves.

Who lives inside the mud?

We perform public dissemination activities with school kids, drawing awareness for the hidden wonders in our environment.

This activity has previously been performed at a primary school with pupils aged between 3-10 years. https://oceandecade.org/news/who-lives-inside-the-mud/

The activity contains: A morning trip to the salt marsh or similar environment, where pupils collect mud samples (and play in the mud). An afternoon activity where the samples are analyzed under the microscope.

Melting Ice

We show large ice blocks including salt marsh plants in a science art installation. The blocks melt accompanied by ocean sounds and a laser show, as well as science flash talks concerning climate change.
